How to Build Momentum in Your Fundraising Journey

If you’ve ever opened your phone, looked at your contact list, and thought, “I don’t even know where to begin…” you’re not alone.

Starting your fundraising journey can feel big, messy, and a little scary. But the truth is, you don’t need to have everything figured out to take your first step. You just need a plan and the courage to follow it.

God Is With You

Here’s a promise you can stand on:

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.” Isaiah 41:10

You’re not doing this alone. God is not only calling you into ministry, He’s also providing for you through people who want to help.

5 Simple Steps to Get Moving

1. Start with the 500

Your first job is to build a contact list of 500 people. That might sound like a lot, but think about everyone you know from school, church, work, events, social media, or even past sign-up forms. Don’t filter yet. Just list names.

2. Find Your 25 Key Connectors

Out of that 500, pick 25 people who can help you connect with others. These are the people who may not give the most, but they’re influencers, willing to open doors, introduce you to others, or host a group meeting.

3. Create a Digital Brochure and Support Presentation

This helps people see your heart and vision clearly. You’ll need a short testimony, pictures, a giving link, and a simple invite to meet. The goal is to share your story in a way that’s real, clear, and God-honoring.

4. Make the Ask (Clearly and Kindly)

Don’t overthink it. Just ask for two things:

  • Monthly financial support

  • Help connecting to more people

You’re not asking for money, you’re offering an invitation to join what God is doing.

5. Show Up, Stay Consistent

You’ll be making 70 calls and sending 70 emails a week. That’s about 10 of each a day. It’s a stretch, but it’s doable. Be faithful, and trust God with the outcome.

Keep Going, Even When It’s Hard

Some days will feel slow. Some people won’t respond. That’s okay.

You’re not just building a donor list. You’re building a community of partners who believe in your mission and want to see the gospel go forward.

Don’t worry about being perfect. Show up. Be real. Trust God. He’s writing the story and you get to be part of it.

Your Next Step Starts Now

Start your 500-contact list. Choose your 25 connectors. And send out your first five texts or emails today.
